There is the low rattle of bones in the pit settling into place from where the carrion crawlers made their exit. Will they come back? Will they come back with reinforcements? Who really knows with creatures most of you have never seen before today.
The violent dance that is battle continues.
Voss weaves his way through his ally’s, while depositing his swords back into their scabbards. He comes to a halt at the far side of the pit (h11). He tries to figure out how hurt the Ettin actually is, though he can’t quite grasp it.
Undeterred he slips his bow from off his shoulder and steadies it with his left hand. Two arrows fly in rapid succession as he completes his move.
Both arrows bounce off the Ettin’s thick hide armor. Whether they did blunt damage is anyone’s guess.
Stones, his path cleared of zombies thanks to Elby’s arrow work rushes to battle the Ettin (D7.) Stones’ bastard sword becomes alight with flames as starts a graceful figure-eight, as he lashes out with a sudden attack the Ettin turns its body – showing remarkable speed – and deflects the blow with its cleaver.
The clanging of flaming metal against cleaver echoes throughout the room.
Qwyn moves forward to position himself for a better angle against the Ettin. The charismatic tiefling points his rod, screaming out, “Which fire? THIS FIRE!”
The Ettin suddenly snaps its right head upward, rivulets of argent fire stream up into the air from his eyes, his mouth, and his hands; agony disrupting its very thought.
His Halfling legs pumping madly Elby finds himself stopping next to Voss (G12) since Voss is standing where Elby was planning to go. “Why won't this thing die?!?” he yells, drawing his bowstring back. As he lets go the tension of the recoil reverberates throughout his bow...
...SNAP...
...the string breaks and the arrow to fall harmlessly into the pit.
Still in front of the Ettin while it gives him a nasty look with its one good head, Radegast grips his axe-hammer tightly. The head of the axe-hammer continues to crackle with flame. Radegast swings with a snarl.
The Ettin replies with a snarl of its own as it parries the blow by bringing its left cleaver across its body, pushing Radegast's weapon to the side.
“I want your head!” cries the left head of the Ettin.
Its cleaver is mid-level after finishing the parry, its backs wing set up perfectly with Radegast's body now exposed.
It is almost in slow motion, not necessarily being about the speed of the attack, instead being about precision. Radegast also seems aware of the opening, cat-like he twists himself into the path of the blow, allowing him to absorb the brunt of the impact with his shoulder (11 hp.).
A battle is not only about avoiding the hit. It is sometimes about minimizing the hit.
Though sometimes there is the after effects of a blow.
Radegast feels his boots slide across the floor as the force of the blow knocks him backward into the pit (d10.) His feet clamber for purchase among the bones and armor to no avail…Radgegast begins to sink slwoly, his gaze going upward toward the now grinning giant.
The Ettin raises the cleaver in its right hand high into the air, its intentions far too clear.
Remsfeld says something in dwarven to Inara as he steps toward the direction of the Ettin. Inara snaps something back in dwarven. The conversation slows the dwarf for a moment, indecision marks in the deep creases off his face, even his beard seems concerned.
That is when everyone in the room hears the tell-tale sound of metal scraping against stone from the pit. A sound everyone recognizes having heard it only a short time ago.
Numerous zombies start pulling themselves out.
In common Inara says,"Remmy, Zomb.... fuck!"
One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. All climbing out of the pit at various spots.
The Ettin brings its right arm down toward Radegast. Suddenly its eyes show complete confusion as the cleaver slips-from-his-hand, arcing high over the pit and flying uncontrolled across the room.
Inara begins to call out to her bodyguard only to suddenly notice an Ettin cleaver soaring towards her head.
Flipping backwards out of the way, she snags the weapon out of midair. Continuing her back flips, she positions herself behind Remsfeld, keeping her eyes on the zombies.
Inara adds something in dwarven to Remsfeld as she examines her newest weapon with amusement, but does not engage.
One of the zombies sticks its head up right in front of Remsfeld. The dwarf’s foot instinctively lashes, his boot catching it directly beneath the chin.
Poof. Its bones disintegrate in a cloud of dust. The armor and weapon falling back into the pit.
One less zombie to worry about.
The Ettin lets out a doubly loud roar, staring contemptuously down at Radegast – though one head continues to shake slightly as though it has had too much ale. The Ettin’s arms are so long it can reach Radegast in the pit effortlessly.
“NOT—“ The left arm swings with its cleaver toward the now-in-the-pit Radegast. Radegast FINALLY finds his footing among the skeletal bones giving him just enough footing to thwart his sinking balance himself, turn toward the blow and let his drakescale armor absorb the full impact.
“—DONE!” The right arm, only a fist clenched in rage clubs downward. Now Radegast has both legs in position to allow himself further movement –countering by deflecting the punch to the side.
Round two of Radegast v Ettin falls to the Ettin though.
Alion calls out, “the Ettin seems more susceptible to ranged and spell attacks than to those attacking nearby - its two heads must confuse it when the attack is not nearby.”
Alion then steps further into the room toward the pit (C11). His holy symbol lights up once again and once again he sends a sacred light from above, searing the Ettin with its radiance while at the same time aiding Radegast (7 hp – temporary).
Alion then adds, “its armor seems thick though its reflexes seem far slower. Keep hitting as it is bloodied!”
Finally, he directs something in a language only those who speak giant as, “Lick my boots four-eyes.” toward the Ettin. The Ettin scowls in return at Alion, seemingly understanding the words.
Then a really odd event happens. From the general direction of Stones' groin you hear a female voice scream out, "Help! Help! I can help you!"
And the dance…the dance continues…
